You may be interested in the following information I have been sent today by Leeds City Council.
It is my understanding that the Department for Transport (DfT) will add new signs to the sign “bible” covering common ones where currently the Council have to apply for their permission and then wait six months.
In due course they will remove the requirement to advertise double yellow lines where these are just formalising the requirements of the highway code, e.g. you must not park within 10m of a junction! This will save time and money.
“DfT has published ‘Signing the way – Traffic signs policy review’, which outlines a policy framework for ensuring traffic systems meet the future needs of all road users. See http://www.dft.gov.uk/publications/signing-the-way [13/10/2011 DfT]”
I have written to Highways to see what effect this information will have on their policies on Road Safety and Signage in the city.
