I have been approached by residents in Arthington who have been left bewildered after letters were sent to every house in the area advising of a move to fortnightly green bin collections, which never materialised.
Complaints were raised after green bins were left out, as instructed by the Council’s Refuse Department, only to remain uncollected.
I am sure the residents were initially delighted with the news that the frequency of their green waste collections was to be doubled to fortnightly. I am now told, however, that this letter was sent out in error, and currently the Council has no plans to increase the frequency of collections in the Village, which remain unchanged.
Unfortunately, no-one has yet provided residents with an explanation of how and why this information was needlessly communicated.
At a time of financial constraints, residents will not be happy to see tax payers’ money being wasted on unnecessary and misleading information, whose only purpose is to increase the levels of recyclable waste.
I often receive complaints that changes in refuse collection days are not notified to householders. Now, it seems, we are creating even more confusion by confirming changes that do not exist.
