I am applauding the news that around 500 vulnerable households will again receive assistance with emergency heating repairs, and additional energy saving measures, thanks to funding from Leeds Primary Care Trust.
Following the success of last year’s “Warm Homes Healthy People” project, funded by the Department of Health, Leeds PCT has agreed to provide £171,000 of funding this year, to repeat the project. The majority of the financial support (£104,000) will be offered to Care & Repair,Leeds, with smaller amounts of £52,000 and £13,000 being offered to Leeds Community Foundation and Groundwork Leeds respectively.
I am 100% behind any scheme that provides vulnerable households with a safety net against the increasingly cold winter weather.
During the last few years the country has been subjected to some of the worst winters ever experienced in recent times. 25% of households inLeedsare in Fuel Poverty. These two factors could create “a recipe for disaster” unless we make adequate, easily accessible provision for those most at risk, should the need arise
I commend the efforts of the Leeds PCT for their proactive approach to reducing the risk of ill health, and possible death from inadequate heating provision.
