I met recently with Council Officers to set out the case for making better use of brownfield land in his ward. i.e. previously developed land. An example is the land off Tile Lane, Adel, which currently is partially occupied by the East Moor Secure Unit.
The Council is currently considering a planning application for a new Secure Unit partially on the old site and partially on the available land surrounding the current unit. I hope that plans for the surplus land on the site can be developed in time for them to be included in the ward plans for housing. It seems like a missed opportunity to leave this land sitting vacant when it could be used for housing in the ward. The Council need to develop a Planning Brief for this site as matter of urgency so that it’s future can be debated by local residents and agreement reached with residents on the best use of the surplus land on this site.
