I have praised a key decision made by the Council’s Executive Board to approve plans for a major refurbishment project at the café at Golden Acre Park.

A new conservatory is to be added to the existing building increasing the number of people who can be seated indoors to 86 whilst retaining the lower patio seating area for 80. There will also be improved toilet facilities, including a Changing Places facility for baby changing and facilities for disabled visitors. The project will be funded through a partnership with local company Franklin Windows who are providing £100K worth of work in return for sponsorship benefits at the Park and café.

I welcome the scheme as a further investment in the Park in addition to the money already spent over the last few years which has greatly enhanced the Park.

Prior to the scheme being put before the Executive Board I received a full briefing on the proposals. I consulted with my residents and the response I received was very positive on the additions to the Bakery and the facilities this would provide. I welcome this type of innovative project as a way of getting funding into Council assets which residents can benefit from. It is a good example of partnership working. The café is well used and the upgrade will make visiting extremely pleasant for all visitors. The upgraded toilet facilities for disabled and those with learning disabilities will provide a better experience and more space for these visitors.
