I am pleased to say that new Cold-Calling Control Zones are launching in North West Leeds, with the aim of discouraging rogue traders and doorstep sellers from operating in the area.
Properties in Adel, Cookridge and Holt Park will be included in the new zones, after pressure from local residents and me working in conjunction with West Yorkshire Trading Standards.
I’m delighted that this initiative is getting off the ground. Considerable thanks and praise are due to two local residents in particular who worked tirelessly to make it happen, with the cooperation and support of the Adel Association and West Yorkshire Trading Standards.
In the digital age, it’s easy to forget that doorstep cold calling is still one of the most common forms of public nuisance people face in their own homes. For many it’s an annoyance, but cold calling can also include criminals trying to commit fraud. These cold calling control zones help to reduce the fear of crime in an area, and give local people the confidence to turn away uninvited sales people and to warn cold callers that they are not welcome.
I hope that this new scheme will make a real impact in the locality and I’m sure that it will be welcomed by residents in the area.
