I am pleased to advise that new proposals to modernise the Farrar Lane sheltered housing complex are moving ahead, with a contractor for the project set to be appointed.

The plans include converting the bedsits into one bedroom flats and full refurbishment of the existing one bed flats, resulting in a total of 24 units on site. The proposals also include full modernisation of the mechanical and electrical services including heating and fire alarms to ensure that the building meets the current fire safety requirements, renewal of the existing lift and the building of a new extension for the scooter parking facilities.

I’m delighted that this scheme is due to get started soon. It will modernise and refurbish the sheltered housing at Farrar Lane, making a noticeable difference to the quality of accommodation for residents living in the flats. I’m pleased that the Council has agreed to make money available to make these much needed improvements. I know that many residents are supportive of the proposals and are keen for the work to start as soon as possible, due to the length of time it has taken to get to this point. With the whole building due to get a more efficient heating system this will be so beneficial to supporting the residents as it is vital to older peoples’ wellbeing and health that they live in well heated homes that are fuel efficient.
