I have received a note from the local police Inspector who has advised that in relation to work they are doing around a Community Speedwatch scheme he has been in touch with the Council’s Road Safety department and has been able to arrange for the loan of a Speed Indicator Device (SID) that can be used around the area. This would be operated by local residents working in pairs and training to use the machine would be given.

If residents are interested in operating a SID I would be pleased to hear from you. If I can collect names I will be able to pair people up who live in the same area and they can work together. The SID is tripod-mounted and is put by the roadside in agreed “hotspots” and it tells motorists whether they are going too fast. There is no penalty for the drivers but it is a deterrent to try and slow cars down.

I look forward to hearing from you if you are interested. You can contact me on barry.anderson@leeds.gov.uk
