A65-AIRPORT-A658 LINK ROAD – ENVIRONMENTAL SURVEYS

I’ve received this update about the proposed airport link road, in case you see any activity.

 “Dear Councillor,

As you know, following our initial consultation (feedback from which we are collating at present), we are considering options for a possible new link road between the A65 and the A658 via the Airport. The current stage of work is development of an Outline Business Case, to determine if there is a viable scheme, which is deliverable, acceptable and value for money. To help inform the environmental impact assessment of the scheme, we need to undertake some environmental surveys on land which is within 250 metres of the route options. The results of the surveys will help to identify the potential impact of the scheme and contribute to the decision making process.

The surveys will require two people to enter some private land, to sample pond water, look at trees for bat roosting and look in ditches and the like for potential habitats for crayfish etc. The surveys will be relatively brief in duration and non-intrusive, and should not cause any damage or disruption. These surveys are planned for mid to late June. We are in the process of identifying relevant landowners so that we can contact them as soon as we can, hopefully in the next few days. We will not enter any private land without seeking permission from the land owner and, if required, we will enter into an agreement.

The reasons for contacting you about this are:-

  • In case any of your constituents are alarmed at the sight of survey staff in the vicinity. This message is to help provide reassurance that the undertaking of these surveys does not constitute a commencement of works on site; and
  • For any of your concerned constituents who are land owners in the vicinity and have been contacted directly by us, that appropriate reassurances can be given that such surveys do not constitute any decision having been made on the route choice or on the decision to implement a scheme, and furthermore that, because wildlife travels, our search extends beyond any immediate option alignments.

If there are any issues arising, please contact me and I will do my best to help resolve them. If you need further information, please let me know.”
