As you may be aware a new 20mph zone, zebra crossing and safety improvements at the junction of Green Lane and Cookridge Drive, is to be implemented at a cost of £65,000 in a bid to improve road safety in the area.
These new measures are to be welcomed. The 20mph zone will cover most of the residential streets in the Adel & Wharfedale Ward area of Cookridge and will go a long way to helping protect children from speeding motorists, and the junction improvements will also aid road safety. As a School Governor at Cookridge Holy Trinity Primary School, I and the Governing Body welcome these improvements as we have been arguing for this for some time. It is unfortunate that these proposals are only being implemented as a result of a development that has not been welcomed by the majority of local residents. There are still some further road safety improvements that could be introduced by the Council in other parts of this location which would mitigate the implications of having this development and hopefully Highways will give due consideration to implementing these measures.
I know from speaking to residents at our Street Surgeries in this area that they really welcome these new measures and are keen to support them. All pedestrians and road users need to be safe when travelling around and as the roads get busier it is important that we use the roads sensibly
