LEEDS EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE BID

The Big Send Off

On the 27th October Leeds will submit its first stage bid to become European Capital of Culture 2023, and there are plans to celebrate in style!

Preparations for the day will start on Thursday 26th Oct and a number of pay & display parking areas will not be available in the area around Quarry Hill.

On Friday 27th Oct Quarry Hill will be pedestrianized for the day to make way for an arts and food festival which will include live entertainment starting at around 12:00.

Everyone is invited to come on down to meet some of the people creating our everyday culture, sample some of the city’s finest food & drink and have a sneak peek behind the scenes of some our greatest cultural venues which will be opening their doors for the occasion.

With a little help from the event partners SOYO (SOuth of YOrk Road) and Leeds BID, there will be celebrations in the streets of Quarry Hill from around 12pm – 8pm.

As well as the many cultural venues holding their own Open House events there will be lots going on during the day on Quarry Hill including:

  • Street food and drink by Leeds Indie Food, North Brew Co. and local restaurants
  • Live music & acts
  • Street entertainment
  • Kids area
  • Workshops
  • Presentations on our Leeds 2023 bid & much more

Entrance to the street festival is free of charge and everyone is invited!
