Funding of £100 has been made available from MICE money from Cllr. Caroline Anderson and I for the purchase of a banner to be placed in the church grounds which front the route of the Tour de Yorkshire this year.
I am delighted that we have been able to help Adel St. John’s to fund the banner to show support for the Tour which comes through Adel right past the church on the last stage of the race on Sunday 6th May, and then goes on to finish in Leeds City Centre. To have Adel St. John’s, a 12th century church showcased to the world will be fantastic. The cyclists will have just come up Black Hill Road from Arthington and there should be big crowds watching the climb there, although it is not being billed as an official climb.
Organisations in Adel have embraced the Tour and they want to get involved and show support. We have all worked well together. This is a huge event and we will be on show to the whole world as the TV viewing audience is enormous. We were really keen to do something as we couldn’t let it just pass by without making the area look as good as possible.
