Cllr. Caroline Anderson and I have made funding of £200 available from MICE money for the purchase of promotional material for the Tour de Yorkshire to the Adel War Memorial Association (AWMA) club on Church Lane which fronts on to this year’s route at Stage 4 of the race on Sunday 6th May.
It’s great to see all the local organisations and businesses getting involved in this year’s Tour de Yorkshire as we are lucky enough to have it on our doorstep once again. The aim is to showcase our area and as the riders will be coming right past the front door of the club it is a great chance to do something special on the day, not just at the time the race comes past although there will be riders coming past most of the day as the “Sportif” is on the Sunday too, to give cyclists who want to ride the same route as the official Tour a chance to try it out.
The funding will make a big difference to how we can display the facilities we have in the area to the world. We want the world to see what a good show we can put on and how popular this event is in Yorkshire. I am sure that all of the local residents will be getting involved and coming to various points on the route to get the best view and watch the whole “caravan” going past. We just need the weather to be kind to us. Outside the AWMA will be a good spot to watch the cyclists and as they have just come up Black Hill Road there will be a chance to watch it for more than a few minutes, whilst they recover from that climb.
