Pool will have new banners for the arrival of the Tour de Yorkshire in Stage 2 on 4th May. I am pleased that Cllr. Caroline Anderson and I have been able to help with the purchase of these by providing MICE money. Along with Pool Parish Council we have funded the design, artwork and production of these beautiful banners for the White Hart roundabout/Stocks Hill which will be a feature for the Tour de Yorkshire.
I am delighted that we have been able to contribute and help Pool Parish Council to fund the banners for the route towards the “Cote de Old Pool Bank” which is one of the featured official climbs in this year’s Tour de Yorkshire. The artwork and design has been done by local artists and designers Karen and Tony van de Bospoort and they are superb. They will be on show by the end of the month, ready in plenty of time for the race on 4th May when it comes through Pool on its way to the Cow and Calf Stage 2 finish in Ilkley. Pool will also feature on the Sunday of the race, 6th May, when the cyclists will come down Pool Bank New Road and turn along Arthington Lane to Black Hill Road. This means the banners will be in the right place for that day too.
It is great that we have been able to involve local talent in this production. Pool is expecting a huge turnout of local people and visitors to experience the event, and with Old Pool Bank being an official climb this is expected to attract a large number of cycling enthusiasts. Pool will be showcased to the whole world as the TV viewing audience is enormous. We, and the Parish Council were really keen to do something as we couldn’t let it just pass by without making the village look as good as possible. There will also be an amount of bunting up and I’m sure the local residents who are on the route will also want to do their own decorations.
