At a meeting of the Outer North West Area Committee on Monday 25th June, a grant application for £14,100 from the Leeds Modernians Cricket Club for the installation of a permanent two lane fixed outdoor cricket net was successful.

I am really pleased that Leeds Modernians have been successful in their application. This funding is absolutely vital as part of the overall cost of the facility and it ticks a number of boxes in terms of what having this facility will do. It will enable both senior players and juniors to have an excellent practice facility. It is so important for children to be outdoors playing sport. It gives them confidence, it helps them with team work, it keeps them fit and teaches them a skill. There are a large number of playing members at the club and they can all use this facility once it is in place.

I really welcome this investment into the Leeds Modernians as it is a very popular club, run in the main by volunteers and very well used by members, visitors and sports teams from across the area. The club are looking to upgrade their facilities and like every other local organisation they need help with funding. They have really done their homework on this and had site visits from a number of suppliers and experts and they have advised this is an ideal location for such a facility. The club have many links with the local schools so the new practice facility can be used by the children in the local community.

I look forward to seeing the final result which I am sure members will really appreciate.
