Further to my previous post in relation to the Street Outreach helping the rough sleepers in Leeds a number of people asked how they could help. Set out below is some information that I have requested from the Head of Safer Leeds which may be of interest to anyone who would like to know more.

Big Change Leeds is the city’s campaign created to raise awareness and promote alternative ways of giving to help people in need on the streets of Leeds.  It seeks to encourage behavioural change in those who give cash directly to people asking for money on the street through alternative options.

There are lots of ways to help…watch this short video which explains what it is about.  All the named charities registered with Big Change work directly with people in need and any funding raised, pays for practical items that individuals need to build independent lives away from the streets.

There are three main ways in which you can help by donating 1) items 2) time 3) money

Behind the Big Change is the which connects people and organisations locally… this will give you an indication of the services available in the city.

You can make a difference by supporting one or more of these charities…often these charities will do a ‘call out’ for help.   If you want to help but not sure exactly how or if you have an idea but not sure which charity to link in with, drop us a line:
