As you may be aware Leeds’ Site Allocations Plan (SAP) was submitted to the Secretary of State for independent inspection back in October 2017. In July and August 2018 public hearings concluded and I spent many days representing residents’ views to the Inspector. The Inspectors have now published what is called their Main Modifications to the SAP. These proposed Main Modifications are what the Inspectors feel is necessary to make the plan “sound”.
The proposed Main Modifications only will now undergo a further 6 week public consultation. Some green belt sites that were earmarked for development have now been reduced in size or removed from the Plan. One of these is in Pool, details as follows:
HG3-5 Old Pool Bank, Pool in Wharfedale – development area has been reduced from 23.1ha to 11ha (indicative capacity from 540 homes to 260 homes)
This safeguards part of the land from development unfortunately only until 2023. However the Council is about to start its Core Strategy Review which is also a public inquiry and will look at housing numbers up to 2033. This will take place from 4th February for 5 days and the same Inspectors will be hearing evidence. I will be present at this Inquiry. I do not believe that this land needs to be developed at all and shall be arguing that point in terms of overall units of housing required.
You may wish to make representation during the 6 week consultation period on this proposed change. The consultation runs from 21st January until 5pm on 4th March 2019. This only relates to the proposed Main Modifications therefore only comments related to that will be considered by the Inspector.
