UPDATE ON ASDA, HOLT PARK

I have been advised by the Council’s Land and Property Officer of the following update in respect of Asda’s plans for Holt Park:

“I thought it would be a timely point to give you an update as to the latest position.

Kidz in Kampz

The works required to the 10 Raynal Approach unit, to accommodate the relocation of Kink, are nearing completion. It is envisaged that the move of KinK should be able to take place in June.

Asda’s Planning Application

I understand from colleagues in Planning that this should be determined very shortly. The main issue they face is identifying a location for a works compound and how this is accessed by vehicles. This is complicated by ground levels and safety considerations. It is particularly the access (haul) road that is proving most challenging and we are working closely with Highways colleagues. Asda’s preference has always been to use the road adjacent to the Farrar Lane sheltered housing facility. We have pushed back on this, due to the sensitivities, and Asda are looking at other options for access but this is proving challenging. Their contractors are likely to be out on site in the next couple of weeks investigating further.

Asda/LCC land agreement

Whilst no contracts have yet been finalised, this is now getting very close to being agreed. When this happens, Asda will need to undertake some site investigation works to check ground conditions of the land it is acquiring from the Council and also the car park. Further details will be provided in due course.  Asda are currently investigating options for the methodology for this work.
