“A public consultation has begun on proposals to create additional specialist school places for children and young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities) in the city.
The proposals include the following;
- A permanent expansion of East SILC – John Jamieson school by 150 places, delivered at two new additional sites (Oakwood building and the former Shakespeare primary school building), from 2020.
- The creation of a new 200 place generic Special Free School for pupils aged 4-16 on the former Elmete Wood SILC site from September 2022. These plans also include an additional 50 partnership places in local mainstream schools.
The consultation is open for a 5 week period, closing on 24 July.
Consultation documents, providing further details about the proposal, are available throughout the consultation period from the council’s website here.
In addition several public drop-in events will take place during the consultation period, both directly within the areas affected and in the city centre. These are to be attended by council officers from the Sufficiency and Participation and Highways teams and will be open to anyone with an interest in the proposals to attend, offering an opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns with us directly.
Please help us to engage with as many people as possible by sharing this information through your usual communication channels.”
