Christmas work at Leeds station and direct trains between Leeds and Harrogate 27th to 29th December

Please find below information I have been sent that may be of importance to you.

“This Christmas, engineers at Leeds station will be working around the clock on the construction of the new platform zero while the station is closed over Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

The closure will allow us to continue work on the new platform, involving laying new track, the installation of new overhead line equipment and testing signalling systems. The new platform will help to meet growing passenger demand at Leeds, the busiest station in the North of England. Construction is due to be completed by the end of 2020 and will enable more trains with more seats to call at Leeds, improving operational flexibility which will help reduce delays for passengers.

On Friday 27 December the majority of the station will reopen for normal service, however there will be no direct trains between Leeds and Harrogate on Friday 27, Saturday 28 or Sunday 29 December as work continues across platforms 1-5. During this time passengers are advised to allow additional time for their journeys as a rail replacement service will be in operation between Leeds and Horsforth, calling at Burley Park and Headingley. Other service alterations may also be in place, and passengers are urged to check before they travel ahead of a full service resuming on Monday 30 December.

The extended closure of part of the station is vital in making progress on the construction of platform zero, however we apologise for the impact that the removal of these services will have for passengers between Leeds and Harrogate. We do not take any decision to reduce services lightly, and this closure has been carefully planned to keep disruption to a minimum at what is historically a quieter time of the year.”
