School bus transport – Update

Last week, we updated you on some of the practicalities around planning transport for the return of schools in September. I thought it worth updating you on what we are doing to support our pupils, teachers, school staff, Councils and elected members during this time.

 

Over recent weeks, Combined Authority officers have been in discussion with Head Teachers,  agreeing plans with bus operators and liaising the Council officers to discuss what is needed for travel to school in September. They have started a process of identifying what additional buses and coaches may be available to support.

 

We are in the planning stage at present and our teams need to gather as much information as possible. We need good data on what pupils and parents are intending to do. We have today launched an online survey available on the link below to help gather this information. I would hope you are able to use your own local networks to encourage as many parents as possible to participate;

We will share this data from the survey with Council officers and schools to help them plan travel arrangements, especially around the steps needed to facilitate active travel.

By early August, our teams will start making arrangements for the bus services needed to get pupils to school at the start of term and by the middle of August we will start advising schools of the arrangements and will be making information available through our website wymetro.com.
