A number of weeks ago I was asked by a local resident what the noise was that was occurring on the railway line at Horsforth during the night and I chased this up with Network Rail. They have finally responded, the response is below:
“We were undertaking two weekends of renewing sections of track at Hornsforth over the weekends of 21st/22nd and 28th/29th June. The work lasted from 00:20 Sunday to 05:50 Monday each weekend.
My team have confirmed that a mail drop was completed for all the neighbours in the vicinity telling them of the work and the noise / disturbance that we unfortunately cannot avoid during the works, and I am therefore disappointed to hear of a complaint that no communication was received and I am following this up as to why this went wrong.
Our work at Hornsforth is nearing completion, so the work on track will be minimal after our follow up work this week. This week we have our follow up tamping shifts booked for this Monday and Tuesday night so there will be some noise from the tamping machine between the hours of 01:00 to 04:30 each night. We also have staff on site Wednesday night to undertake ballast work but without machinery.
I am hoping a mail drop has been received for these activities and you are aware.
I apologise for the inconvenience our work has caused to all those concerned.”
